The Indoor Playground

The girls slept with their parents in the same bed, and if it got a bit too crowded, one would sleep on a pile of blankets on the stone floor. Blankets both wool and cotton piled high to the ceiling, readying for fall’s embrace and the onslaught of winter.

The rooms aren’t too big as each family would occupy a small unit within a larger house. But the girls were never bothered by the lack of space. Television, books, coloring pencils and board games were available to them. And if they were bored, all they had to do was venture outside to food hawkers and peddlers of endless knick knacks. The walls didn’t serve as a constraint, but a partition between playgrounds.
